Taekwon-Do

About Taekwon-Do

Anyone can benefit from and enjoy training in the art of Taekwon-Do. It offers a fantastic range of benefits, both physical and mental, which can enrich your life in many ways. Some students simply enjoy the keep-fit aspects of physical training, whether it be kicking targets or basic movements. For others it’s the invaluable knowledge and confidence which comes from self-defence training. The study of moral culture and traditional Korean terms and theories adds a deeper meaning for many students. The opportunity to challenge oneself through competition or striving to reach the goal of Black Belt is what keeps some inspired. For many it's the beauty of the movements in the 24 patterns and the co-ordination and concentration required to master them, which keeps them interested over the years. Whatever attracts you to Taekwon-Do, you can be sure that it will give you a sense of pride and achievement that will keep you coming back for more.

Our classes are formal but friendly and beginners and experienced students are always welcome. Training sessions include a combination of the following elements;

  • Warm-up and Stretching
  • Strength and Fitness Training
  • Fundamental Movements
  • Patterns
  • Power and Target Training
  • Self Defence
  • Non Contact Sparring
  • Cool-down

Exercises are mainly practised alone therefore the body sets its own limits and injuries are rare. Each student trains according to their own ability and goals. For those students who wish to follow the traditional grading programme, training twice weekly with regular seminars and gradings, it's possible to attain the level of Black Belt within 3 years.

We are affiliated with Choŝon Taekwon-Do (Australia), International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), Paul Cutler’s Taekwon-Do Academy and United Kingdom Taekwon-Do Association (UKTA).

When and What To Wear

Sessions for 2010 will be on Monday and Friday evenings...please call the club on 9748 9429 for details.

Those wishing to train only for fitness are welcome and should wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes that allow for stretching and kicking. Those wishing to follow the full Taekwon-Do syllabus and progress through the grading process will be required to be fully licensed and purchase a dobok (training suit).

About The Instructors

Miss Marion Sherlock IV

I have been training in Taekwon-Do for over 14 years, instructing for almost 11 years and I am an international ‘A’ class instructor and examiner GB-4-229 which enables me to promote my own registered Taekwon-Do students. I have gained all of my grades up to IV degree black belt under the pioneer First Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha IX and have had a successful international competition career spanning 7 years including numerous European and 5 world championships and a successful career competing nationally in the UK winning national championships regularly for a number of years. I have had the privilege of instructing many of my students to national and international competition honours and seen 10 of my students rise to the rank of black belt from white belt.

I look forward to helping you discover why Taekwon-Do has had such a positive impact on my life. It has enabled me to do things with my life and to become someone I could have never been without it thanks to my Instructors Mr Steven Luxmoore V, Mr K.S. Dhanda VI and mentor First Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha IX. I am certain you will also enjoy it and benefit from it!

Lorna McClory II

I began training in April 2003, promoted to I degree in September 2007 and was recently promoted to II degree by First Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha IX during his visit to Perth WA. I am a national ‘C’ class instructor and have had a successful competition career at colour and black belt competing nationally in Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England. I have been instructing students from late 2007 and have gained immeasurable pleasure from witnessing them push themselves and experience the same pleasure and sense of achievement from Taekwon-Do that I have gained and continue to enjoy.
