Dance Styles

DanceMax teaches five distinctly different styles of dance, all in a fun, friendly and encouraging environment. Read below for descriptions of our dance styles:

BALLET/JAZZ
Jazz ballet is performed to the rhythm of 4/4 music taken from the bass rhythm not the melody.  Jazz requires strength and co-ordination and the movements are generally fast which reflects the tempo of the music. Classes are structured for beginner and advanced participants. It is recommended that the students take ballet classes in order to learn correct technique at slower tempos, mastering ballet techniques will compliment their jazz dancing.

CLASSICAL BALLET

Ballet classes focus on the development of co-ordination, strength and flexibility essential for performing all styles of dance. Modern dance is a contemporary form of ballet, it is a “free style” form of dancing focusing on technique allowing the dancer to explore new and exciting movements.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop is the style of dance seen in the latest music film clips. Hip Hop is less technical than jazz, requires a high level of co-ordination and a true desire to feel the music and have fun.

TAP

Tap dance is a form of dance that has been around for many years and was derived from the African American dancers. Tap dancing requires a special shoe with metal plates attached to the heels and toes so that sound is created with each movement and beat. Tap dancing is a great way to exercise, have fun and make some noise!

ACROBATICS
A recent addition to the dance school, acrobatics explores the limits of human movement. Agility, endurance, strength and body awareness are just some of the qualities acrobats harness in their pursuit for this amazing discipline.

Class duration: all Ballet/Jazz classes are 1.5hr, while Classical Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap and Acrobatics are 1hr.
